Hand-addressed mailing envelope, 5.5 x 3, addressed in Wagner’s hand to opera singer Albert Niemann at the Royal Court in Hanover, postmarked April 22, 1860. Reverse bears the original red wax seal clearly impressed with Wagner’s initials, “RW.” In fine condition. Niemann starred in the Paris version of Tannhauser in 1861. Accompanied by a libretto of Lohengrin signed by sopranos Eleanor Steber and Astrid Varnay; a blank envelope bearing an embossed portrait of Wagner; and a letter from an unidentified scholar concerning Wagner’s Lohengrin.
