Description

Camille Saint-Saens

Two ALSs in French, both with musical content: one signed “C. Saint-Saens,” one page both sides, October 13, 1886, in part (translated): "With pleasure I accept membership in the sponsoring Committee for the national edition of the Works of Cherubini”; and another signed “C. Saint-Saens,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, July 8, 1896, to Pauline Viardot-Garcia, for whom Saint-Saens wrote Samson and Delilah, in part (translated): “Even if it’s unpleasant for you, from time to time you need to hear the truth. It gives me so much pleasure to tell it to you! Miss Gianoli, one of my good Dalilas, wants lessons from you…are you inclined…? She’s charming, extremely intelligent…not a big voice but nevertheless…great success." In overall fine condition.
