“Let me assure you I couldn’t have done my job without you,” von Braun writes to his assistant, “and to fire you would have meant cutting my own throat!”

TLS, one page, 7 x 8, NASA letterhead, November 29, 1971. Letter to his longtime assistant Bonnie Holmes, in full: “In the event you have seen Beirne Lay’s book, ‘Earthbound Astronauts,’ and particularly page 58 (xerox copy enclosed), I swear on a stack of Bibles I never said that!! You know how I am always being misquoted. Let me assure you I couldn’t have done my job without you and to fire you would have meant cutting my own throat!” Includes the referenced Xerox page stapled to the upper left corner. In fine condition, with a few small faint stains. Pre-certified Zarelli Space Authentication.
