Matthews of Asheville, North Carolina, who is desirous of securing an appointment in the Division of Investigation. In accordance with your request, I have forwarded to him an application blank, together with information regarding the positions in the Division of Investigation. When Mr. Matthews’ application is received, you may be assured that I will give it my personal attention in connection with the filling of any vacancies that arise to which one with his training and experience might be appointed and that I shall keep in mind your interest in him. I am sorry that I did not have the opportunity to talk with you upon the occasion of your visit to the Department, but hope that you will be able to pay me a visit in the near future. Your comments regarding the publicity given the work of the Division in the Nationalist are appreciated, as well as your congratulations on the work of the Division in the Lindbergh case.” In fine condition, with two old rusty paperclip impressions.
