Description

“[Bela Lugosi] had developed the character of Dracula so completely, that he could re-assume it at a moment’s notice. And—he grew very tired of it”

American professor, writer, and actress (1914–1994) who is best known for her role of Luna in Mark of the Vampire, and for creating the iconic look of the female vampire. ALS, one page both sides, 6 x 8, no date. Letter to Dave Skal, in full: “Thank you for your kind letter and your praise for our old film. I, too, think Mark of the Vampire was a fine Gothic story. As to Mr. Lugosi’s approach to a part—1. He wasn’t, of course, a ‘method’ actor. 2. He was well trained in his art and a good technician who could produce an appropriate illusion for almost all character. (Perhaps you know that he made his debut as Romeo?) 3. He had developed the character of Dracula so completely, that he could re-assume it at a moment’s notice. And—he grew very tired of it. He warned me when I started to play Luna, that if I was good I’d never have a chance to play anything else. Hope this answers your questions.” In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned photo from the referenced film. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
