James Monroe and John Quincy Adams

Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “James Monroe” as president and “John Quincy Adams” as secretary of state, one page, 11.5 x 15, April 16, 1823. Scallop-topped ship’s pass issued for “the Brig Francis of Bristol, Benjamin W. Bradford master or commander…To Pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods and Merchandize without any hinderance, seisure or molestation.” Nicely signed at the conclusion by Monroe and countersigned by Adams. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains fully intact. In very good condition, with heavy wrinkling, and areas of repaired vellum loss near upper and lower edges. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
