George Clinton

American soldier and statesman (1739–1812) who served as governor of New York and as vice president in the Jefferson and Madison administrations. Partly-printed DS, signed “Geo: Clinton,” one page, 14.75 x 9.25, March 15, 1803. Governor Clinton appoints “Lewis Scott Ensign of a Company in the Regiment of Militia in the country of Saratoga whereof Thomas Rogers Esquire, is Lieutenant-Colonel-Commander.” Signed at the conclusion by Clinton as governor of New York and countersigned by Deputy Secretary of State Archibald McIntyre. In very good to fine condition, with some splitting along intersecting folds. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
