Description

J. Edgar Hoover

TLS, one page, 7 x 9.25, Federal Bureau of Investigation letterhead, June 28, 1944. Letter to film producer and co-founder of MGM studios Louis B. Mayer, in part: “I have just returned to Washington after an extended trip which took me to the West Coast. I did want to drop you this personal note to tell you how much I appreciated your getting in touch with me when I was out West. I only regret that it was not possible for us to visit together personally. However, I was happy to have been able to have such a long chat with you over the telephone. I can assure you that I at no time have ever had any question in my mind concerning your attitude, confidence and friendliness in the work which we are trying to do in the FBI. The fact that there has been some misunderstanding somewhere down the line is, of course, a thing that is apt to happen in any organization and at any time. It is, however, most gratifying to know that you have such high admiration for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and I sincerely trust that we of this Bureau may always continue to merit your faith and confidence.” In fine condition, with staple holes to upper left. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
