Description

Rare classic Three Stooges lineup

Rare vintage glossy 10.25 x 8 photo of the Three Stooges fighting on the floor, each man desperately reaching for a Pillsbury’s Farina moving picture machine, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To ‘Millie,’ Sincerely, The 3 Stooges, Moe,” “Curly,” and “Larry Fine.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing, staple holes to corners, and a small tear to the right edge. Consignor notes that her mother, Emily Grous Hollister, nicknamed ‘Millie,’ obtained the signature while working as a concierge to the stars at Hartford, Connecticut’s State Theatre during the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Appearing on the market in 1937, the moving picture machine, a die-cut collectible produced by Pillsbury’s Farina cereal, was a cardboard projector accompanied by frames from Stooges' movies which could be cranked and viewed through a viewfinder. These sought-after machines were given away at participating theaters following Stooges matinees. Fully signed photos of the classic Three Stooges lineup remain rare and highly sought-after, with this example enhanced furthermore by its comedic marketing tie-in—the Three Stooges were at the peak of their popularity when they were partnered with Pillsbury’s Farina. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
