Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Pennsylvania (1742–1798), and one of only six men who signed both the Declaration and the US Constitution. Manuscript DS, one page, 5.5 x 8, June 28, 1782. Promissory note, in part: “We and each of us promise to pay on or before the first Day of August next to James Wilson or his Order the Sum of one hundred and forty Pounds Pennsylvania Currency for Value received.” Docketed and signed on the reverse by Wilson, “Received twenty two Pounds and ten Shillings in part of the written Note, James Wilson.” In very good condition, with splitting along horizontal folds, scattered foxing, and writing showing through from opposing sides.
