Horatio Alger, Jr

Massachusetts author (1832–1899) best remembered for young adult novels characterized by ‘rags-to-riches’ narratives, such as the Ragged Dick, Luck and Pluck, and Tattered Tom series. ALS, two pages, lightly-lined on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, Grand Hotel, San Francisco, California letterhead, no date. Letter to Mr. Saroni, in full: “Thanks for your kind remembrance. Doubtless your gift will sweeten the long hours of my transcontinental trip. I tried to get time to call at your office to–day, but was too busy. During my stay in San Francisco I have been indebted to you for much kind attention, which you may be assured that I fully appreciate. I shall be glad to hear from you at any time. My summer address will be ‘South Natick, Mass.’ After Sept 1st, I shall be at 133 East 46th St. New York.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
