Peter Cooper

Versatile American industrialist, inventor, and politician (1791–1883) who designed the first steam locomotive built in the United States. Uncommon AQS on a lightly lined off-white 5 x 8 sheet, signed at the conclusion in black ink by Cooper. In full: “‘Knowledge, economy and labour, are the shining virtues, of a civilized man; they form, the most enduring basis of society, And, the surest springs, of individual welfare. Without art a nation is a soulless body, Without science a straying wanderer.’” In very good to fine condition, with light staining along the lower edge. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
