Postal return receipt, signed in pencil, “Tyrus R. Cobb,” one page, 5 x 3, January 14, 1944. The reverse of the receipt identifies the sender, “Hillerich & Bradsby,” in Louisville, Kentucky. In very good to fine condition, with a small stain touching the signature and light overall creasing and soiling.
Best known as the manufacturer of the Louisville Slugger baseball bat, Hillerich & Bradsby supplied Cobb’s bats throughout his storied career. Cobb formed a business relationship with Hillerich & Bradsby in 1908, officially endorsing the bat and allowing his signature to be reproduced on the barrel. They continued to produced Ty Cobb model baseball bats well after the end of his career, with this document likely confirming receipt of a sample or order of these bats. Featuring an extraordinary association between a legendary hitter and his bat maker, this is an enormously desirable one-of-a-kind piece. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
