Description

Boldly signed during the Russian’s 1906 trip to America

Signed book: Orloff and His Wife. Later printing. NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1906. Hardcover, 5.5 x 7.5, 485 pages. Boldly signed on a free end page in black ink in Cyrillic, “M. Gorky,” noting a location of “Staten Island.” Autographic condition: fine, with mild dampstaining to the lower right corner of the signed page. Book condition: VG-/None. Gorky visited America only briefly in 1906 and he was met with public outrage when his scandalous relationship with a Russian actress came to light. When he was thrown out of the hotel he was staying in due to these marital indiscretions, he took refuge in the Staten Island home of an American socialist where he stayed as their guest for five weeks. Books signed by Gorky are scarce and extremely desirable. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
