TLS signed “Jim,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, January 7, 1977. Letter to General James Stewart, in part: “Here is the story: The Charles A. Lindbergh Memorial Fund is an organization which plans to raise $5,000,000, hopefully by May 21, to honor Slim on the fiftieth anniversary of his memorable nonstop New York to Paris solo slight. The money will be raised by contributions, fund-raising dinners, etc…Neil Armstrong and I are co-chairmen of the Fund. Frank Berend—a real pro—will run the Los Angeles dinner. About seven hundred—and hopefully more—are expected to attend. It would be a very great favor to Neil and me—and do much to assure the financial and artistic success of the dinner—if you could find time to act as Master of Ceremonies.” In fine condition.
