Beautiful color 42 x 31 poster designed by Auguste Matisse for the 1924 Chamonix Winter Olympics, the first ever held. The poster depicts an eagle soaring high above a bobsled track, and provides information about the Olympics in the lower border, “Aux Vainqueurs du concours de la VIII Olympiade, Chamonix Mont-Blanc, 25 Janvier–5 Fevrier 1924.” Printed by Cornille & Serre, Paris. The poster has been professionally restored and linen backed. This was one of three posters produced for the Olympics by the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee railway company, all of which showed the new athletic facilities that the company helped to finance. This is undoubtedly the most popular of the three variations of Chamonix posters, and just 5,000 were produced.
