TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, May 25, 1968. Letter to Roger G. Rose, in full: “I was pleased to learn of your willingness to support my candidacy in Tuesday’s Oregon Primary and of your public endorsement in my behalf. Please accept my warmest thanks and best wishes.” In fine condition, with some very light stains near the left edge. In the wake of his California primary victory, Kennedy addressed his supporters at Los Angeles’ Ambassador Hotel in the early hours of June 5, 1968. Despite his bodyguards urging otherwise, Kennedy, on his way to the pressroom, took a shortcut through a crowded kitchen. Amid handshakes and well-wishes Kennedy was tragically shot down by Palestinian assassin Sirhan Bishara Sirhan, succumbing to his wounds a day later. Signed just eleven days before the shooting, this letter was written during Kennedy’s promising run for the Democratic nomination. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
