Gospel singer and songwriter (1914-2000) who was the patriarch of The Staples Singers, which included his daughter Mavis. DS, one page both sides, 8.5 x 11, January 7, 1959. Standard American Federation of Musicians phonograph recording contract between Vee Jay Records and Staples to record the songs 'I'm Leaning,' 'Going Away,' 'So Soon,' and 'I'm So Glad." Signed at the conclusion in ballpoint by Staples. In fine condition. Both PSA/DNA and Roger Epperson (REAL) have seen this item but, due to lack of exemplars, have not issued an official opinion. As this is a legal document we have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the item.
