TLS, one page, 8.25 x 11, January 13, 1920. Letter to Miss McKinstry, in part: “My Milt might work out as yours did. But there are variations in Milts—and in Claires—and in chance of environment. I picture Milt gong to France, as an engineering captain, and coming back as different as the cubs you and I have known…are after ten years away from their small towns, ten years of college and work and wandering and being earnestly beaten-up by chance…And then there are some who can’t be changed by ten times ten years. I think my cub, Milt, could be, and would be. Perhaps not, it’s as much of a gamble as the speculations of the fond parents who expect their offspring to become a cellist, an interior decorator, or a Christian Science reader, and bewildered see him turning into a bond salesman, a prizefighter, or a —well, or a writer.” In fine condition.
