Description

E. M. Forster

TLS, one page, 7 x 9, Station Comshall letterhead, October 29, 1929. Letter to Monsieur Saurat, in part: “I remember saying that I would take the chair for Mauron if I was wanted, and I have just had the formal request so to do. But I am appalled at the subject. I know nothing about French poetry and very little about orientation. When I had the honour of being in the chair for Bloch, his lecture was a generalisation and to speak of it was easy. But this promises to be a very different matter, and I do seriously beg you to approach someone else, preferably Roger Fry…who would be thoroughly qualified.” Forster makes a single handwritten emendation. In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
