American writer (1850–1895) best known for his poems of childhood, including ‘Wynken, Blynken, and Nod’ and ‘Little Boy Blue.’ ALS, one page, 5 x 8, November 5, 1894. Long letter in his tiny handwriting, in part: “I feel vastly flattered that the ladies of your Society should deem my work worthy of special consideration. The verses to which you refer are supposed to be the recital of an old man of little education but of much feeling. His recital begins in a light—almost familiar—vein, but becomes serious when Lincoln and the war are suggested.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
