Elgar requests a proof for “‘Te Deum & Benedictus’”

Leading English composer (1857–1934) and a significant figure among late Romantic European musicians. ALS, one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, June 26, 1897. In full: “I accept with thanks the terms offered for the Hereford ‘Te Deum & Benedictus’ in your letter of the 25th. I shall be extremely obliged if you will let me have proof as early as possible as time is short for the chorus rehearsals. I shall be glad to receive two copies of the proof as usual. One to return & one to retain & complete the full score.” In fine condition, with a block of light toning to the front, and a filing stamp touching the signature on the reverse. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
