British politician (1718–1792) who held a number of important positions, but remains best known as the namesake of the sandwich. ALS signed “Sandwich,” one page, 7 x 8.25, November 23, 1771. Letter to the Rev. Mr. Thomas at St. Neotts. In part: “The medal you take for Tiberius is Augustus, the T. is the last letter of AVGVST. the S being on one side of the head & the T on the other is not uncommon. One of the little medals is Anastasius, the reverse D. N. THEIA REX, it is described in Banduri, & as I have it not in my collection if you will accept of two guineas in lieu of it they are at your service. The other medal having no legend is (at least to me) unintelligible, & therefore in my opinion of little to no value.” In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges and the onetime two separate pages taped together with black tape. Accompanied by the clipped address panel accomplished in his own hand. Interesting numismatic content. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
