Two rare DSs related to the final wishes of Ava Gardner, both 8.5 x 13, November 13, 1960. The first, five pages, a last will and testament “solely for…assets located in Spain,” in which the actress devises and bequeaths her “entire Spanish Estate” to her sister Beatrice Elizabeth Gardner Cole. Signed and dated at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by Gardner, and countersigned by her executors. The second, twenty pages, a last will and testament for all of Gardner’s estate “except that part which is located in Spain,” in which she gives and bequeaths all her “jewelry, furs, clothing, personal effects, household goods, books, silverware, furniture and furnishings of every kind” to her aforementioned sister, $5,000 to Larry Tarr, and a lot of four trust shares to her other siblings. Signed and dated at the conclusion of page nineteen in blue ballpoint by Gardner, and countersigned on the detached final page by her executors. In overall fine condition. Beatrice ‘Bappie’ Gardner Cole shared a strong relationship with her younger celebrity sister, and even lived with her during Gardner’s first few years as a starlet with MGM. Bappie’s former husband, Larry Tarr, snapped many of the publicity photos that would jumpstart the young actress’ career. An affecting pair of documents from one of Hollywood’s most adored yet reclusive screen legends, revealing the short list of names she held most dear during her lifetime—Gardner died at the age of 67 on January 25, 1990; Bappie would outlive her younger sister by three years.
