TLS, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, State of New Jersey Executive Department letterhead, April 25, 1911. Letter to Justice Samuel Kalisch, who Governor Wilson had just appointed to the Supreme Court of New Jersey. In full: “I do not feel that I deserve any thanks for your appointment. I picked you as the man most qualified and the appointment gave me a great deal of pleasure. It will be a pleasure to be associated with you here in Trenton.” In fine condition. This was a notable appointment as Justice Kalisch was the first Jew to be appointed to the New Jersey Supreme Court; Wilson would make history yet again as president when he appointed Louis Brandeis as the first Jewish justice on the US Supreme Court.
