Description

Stone agrees to pen the 1983 crime epic Scarface

Desirable DS, six pages, 8.5 x 11, October 19, 1981. Inter office communication loan-out agreement between Universal City Studios and Ixtlan, Inc., in which the latter consents to the “use of the exclusive services of Oliver Stone as a writer to write a first draft screenplay and one set of revisions” for the film Scarface, with a consideration of $275,000 for “said first draft…and one set of revisions.” Signed at the conclusion of the final page in blue ballpoint by Stone, and countersigned by Gerald Barton, vice president of Universal Pictures. In fine condition. Although Stone is most often associated with his directorial work in films like Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, and JFK, his first true Hollywood success came as a screenwriter for the 1978 film Midnight Express, a title which earned him an Oscar for the category of Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium. Stone would then co-write the script for the successful Conan the Barbarian in 1982, before eventually signing on for the classic gangster film Scarface. A decidedly uncommon piece of cinematic history related to the man who would help bring the story of Tony Montana to vivid, violent life. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
