John Tyler

ALS as president signed “J. Tyler,” one page, 8 x 10, September 28, 1843. Letter to “the Secretary of War.” In full: “I have been acquainted with circumstances which make it desirable and proper that the leave of absence heretofore granted to 2d Lt. Niel of the Rifle Regiment be extended to the first of May.” Also addressed on the reverse of the second integral page in Tyler’s hand, “To the Secretary of War,” and franked in the upper right, “J. Tyler.” In very good condition, with several tears to first page affecting text, splits to hinge repaired with old tape, and paper loss and mounting remnants to integral address leaf. Accompanied by an unsigned print of Tyler. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
