Detailed original signed ballpoint and pencil diagram sketch of the Enola Gay’s air escape plan on a white 8.5 x 11 sheet, signed in the upper left, “Major Theodore J. Van Kirk, Navigator—Enola Gay, Hiroshima—6 Aug. 1945.” Van Kirk has circled the target and drop zone, plotted the return courses for both the Enola Gay and the Great Artiste, and marked where the planes would experience the first and second shock waves of the blast. In the lower left corner he adds, “Altitude-30060 FT, True Air Speed–285 knots, Bomb detonates 1890 FT above Hiroshima—43 seconds after release, Bank of turns—60°.” In fine condition.
