Vintage 1976 glossy 10 x 8 Track Record publicity photo of Moon playing behind his kit, signed and inscribed in black ballpoint, “To John, Keith Moon.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from Moon’s former personal assistant, Peter ‘Dougal’ Butler, in full: “This is to certify that this signature of Keith Moon was the last signature he signed on tour with The Who. It was signed in my presence in his hotel suite in Toronto Canada on 21st October, 1976. The last tour date Keith played with The Who. The name John on the photo is my cousin who lived in Toronto and came to the concert. Alas, he never received it!” Although The Who would go on to play two private sets for the documentary The Kids Are Alright, the October 21st show at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens proved to be Moon’s final public performance with the band. Moon died from an apparent drug overdose on September 7, 1978, a night after attending a preview screening of The Buddy Holly Story, hosted by Paul and Linda McCartney. Augmented by its rock solid provenance, this exceptional photo of Moon depicts the revolutionary drummer in a place where he was without peer, behind his drum kit. Pre-certified REAL.
