Queen Liliuokalani

Last reigning monarch of the Hawaiian islands (1838–1917) who actively pursued the preservation of the islands for their native residents. Fountain pen signature, “Liliuokalani,” on an off-white card affixed to a handsome 6 x 9.5 album page hand-embellished with a calligraphic title. In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, postmarked 1897. In 1898, Liliuokalani was forced to give up her throne when Hawaii was annexed to the United States.
