Description

Henry Jackson

Revolutionary War general from Massachusetts (1747–1809) who led his regiment in the Philadelphia campaign of 1777, at Monmouth and Rhode Island in 1778, and at Springfield, New Jersey, in 1780. Rare Revolutionary War–dated ALS, one page, 9 x 14, June 12, 1782. Letter to Lt. Sturtevant, in full: “I am directed by Major General Baron Von Steuben Inspector General of the American Army to inform you it is his orders you immediately on the receipt of this join your regiment unless your health is just that it will nor permit you to come on & that you must make appear by proper certificates & vouchers which you will send on by the first post, as the Baron is determined to strike all officers off the rolls that are not absent by sickness or proper authority.” In very good condition, with overall soiling, wear, and small tears to edges.
