John Tenniel

British illustrator (1820–1914) best known for his collaborations with Lewis Carroll on the Alice in Wonderland books. ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, personal letterhead, April 3, 1894. Letter to F. W. Sullivan. In part: “I must adhere to my original decision—your courteous & persuasive letter notwithstanding, & for the reasons assigned in my previous letter to you—in respectfully declining the very flattering invitation of the Committee to become ‘President’ of the ‘Society of Illustrators.’” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
