ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, personal letterhead, April 3, 1894. Letter to F. W. Sullivan. In part: “I must adhere to my original decision—your courteous & persuasive letter notwithstanding, & for the reasons assigned in my previous letter to you—in respectfully declining the very flattering invitation of the Committee to become ‘President’ of the ‘Society of Illustrators.’” In fine condition.
