Description

Two items: a 6 x 3.5 commemorative cover with a cachet honoring English aviation pioneer Alan Cobham's First United States Overland Flight, initialed in fountain pen by Cobham; and a color glossy 8 x 10 photo of Easter Island taken from orbit, matted to an overall size of 11 x 14, signed on the mat in black felt tip by space shuttle astronaut Richard Covey, "Easter Island, Sept. 1985. Easily identified from orbit because of the distinctive shape of the volcano Rano Kan—and there is no other land for a thousand miles! Dick Covey, pilot of STS-51-I." The reverse of the photo bears a stamp that reads, "NASA photo taken and authenticated by," and is signed in black felt tip, "Richard O. Covey, Easter Island 1985." Also affixed to the reverse is a caption indicating the image number, date, and coordinates. In overall fine condition.
