Rufus King

Massachusetts delegate to the Continental Congress (1755–1827) who was one of the signers of the United States Constitution; he also served as a New York senator, a Minister to Britain, and a Federalist candidate for both vice president and president of the United States. ALS, one page, 8 x 10, March 6, 1820. Letter to Samuel Jarvis, in part: “I received today your obliging letter of the 3’d instant…as you have forwarded a Copy to the President, I will, if opportunity occur, suggest you write to him; and can be no reason to doubt his readiness to give the requisite Instructions to obtain as far as practicable the desired Information.” Reverse of second integral page bears a hand-addressed and free franked address panel, franked in the upper right, “Free, Rufus King.” In fine condition, with scattered light staining . Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
