ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, 2 Richmond Terrace letterhead, January 29, 1901. Letter to Reverend Cunningham Geikie, in part: “We are very unfortunate in South Africa, I admit, but our best General is there, & no one can blame him. I rather blame the incompetent authorities at home, & the nation is by no means guiltless in the matter. We have such a curious way of dealing with serious…exigencies. What we suffer from most is lack of vigour due to our fear of giving offence to somebody or other continually. Woe betide the man in this country who manifests any unusual rigour in anything!” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
