Description

Announcing the opening of Detroit’s “Laura Ingalls Wilder Branch Library”

ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 7.25, December 14, 1948. Letter to Mrs. Newman. In part: “It is nice to hear from you again and to know that you still love my books though there are no children to listen to them. My Dear, birds must leave the nest even if we are lonely without them. It may help you a little to read the 27 Psalm especially the last verse. I agree with you about mankind and animals and I do not think we are wicked for those thoughts. It seems to me that humans have too much pride in their fancied superiority to animals, I have found that animals do think and reason and they excel many people in the qualities that we admire in mankind. Oh! I didn’t intend to give a lecture or anything like that. I am very well but Mr. Wilder has not been well and we both are growing no younger. Rose was well when last she wrote. I hope you will make her that visit someday. You may like to know that the Detroit, Mich. Public Library are opening a new branch library and have named it the Laura Ingalls Wilder Branch Library.” In fine condition. Excellent, thoughtful content in a letter featuring two full signatures—one at the conclusion, the other within the text. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
