Description

Bush recalls his father’s glee club days

ALS as president, one page both sides, 6.25 x 4.25, presidential Camp David stationery card letterhead, November 23, 1989. Letter to Everett Fisher, thanking him for a photograph of his father, Prescott S. Bush, Sr., singing with the Silver Dollars, in full: “Thanks for the picture of Dad’s Silver Dollar Quartet. You know I still miss my Dad every day—and I wish he were here. I write this on Thanksgiving. We Bushs have a lot to be thakful [sic] for.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, as well as a copy of Fisher’s letter to Bush, in part: “The enclosed photograph shows several fellows in whom you have had more than passing interest. The Silver Dollar quartet earned the admiration and affection of all who were fortunate enough to hear them. This picture came to light among my brother Agnew’s dark room ‘archives’ after his death earlier this year. I am sure a better copy could be made, if you would like. Just give it back to Spike and I will make the arrangements. On the other band, if you would prefer just keep the original, although it seems somewhat scratched and brittle.” Before serving as a longtime senator of Connecticut, Prescott Bush tried his hand in a variety of successful business ventures, most notably as a board director at CBS, a manager at the United States Rubber Company, and as the head of the United States Golf Association. The founder of the Yale Glee Club, Bush often sang with various acapella groups as a hobby, performing up and down the East Coast with acts like the Silver Dollar Quartet. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
