Partial ALS signed “Geo. Meade,” one page on the second integral page of an adjoining letter, 8 x 9.75, September 15, 1867. Letter to the recent widow of Jonathan McLaughlin, in part: “If the Sect. can be made ‘to new the claim favorably’ why not get him to decide it? It is the belief that he cannot be made to new it favorably which induces you to avoid pressing him to a decision. You might say to Mr. W. that you had written to the Sect. immediately on the decease of your husband asking his immediate action…State you are willing to make every effort to influence him, except pressing a Decision, which you will not do unless you are afraid it will be a favorable one.” Second integral page bears an additional ALS from the first recipient, the aforesaid “Mr. W.” In fine condition.
