Collection of items related to four significant figures: a TLS signed “Robert Stroud,” March 28, 1940, in part: “There are a great many persons in the world who have the stupid habit of seeking and acting on the advice of persons who know nothing about the situation involved. Bird breeders are always complaining of them, and I have met quite a few myself”; a color 8 x 12 cardstock head-and-shoulders photo of David Ben-Gurion, signed in the lower border in black ballpoint in Hebrew, adding the date, “23.6.72”; a set of three Farmers & Merchants National Bank & Trust Co. checks, 6.25 x 2.75, filled out in another hand and signed by Richard E. Byrd, “R. E. Byrd,” dated between 1931 and 1932; and an assortment of sixteen letters praising the work of civil rights activist and NAACP executive officer Walter White, circa 1943, each signed by a notable figure, primarily politicians and journalists, including: H. L. Mencken (TLS), Wendell Willkie (TLS), politician Robert F. Wagner (ALS), Max Lerner (ALS), Rex Stout (ALS), Edward Bernays (TLS), Howard Dietz (ALS), Dorothy Canfield Fisher (ALS), James A. Farley (ALS), Robert M. La Follette, Jr. (TLS), Henry Luce (TLS), Dorothy Thompson (TLS), Fannie Hurst (ALS), and three others. Ben-Gurion signature a shade or two light, otherwise overall fine condition. Accompanied by two checks filled out and signed by Byrd’s wife, Marie. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
