Description

Thomas Moore

Famed Irish poet and songwriter (1779–1852) best known for such verses as ‘The Last Rose of Summer’ and ‘Believe Me If All These Endearing Young Charms.’ ALS, one page, 7.25 x 9, December 3, 1837. Letter to a gentleman, in part: “I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter on the subject of the Pension which I hold on the Civil List and the claims and wants which may be thought to entitle me still to retain that pension. With respect to my claims, it is not for myself to speak; and on the subject of my wants I shall say but little. I began life with literally nothing. I might show, indeed, that it was even worse than nothing, were it not that said details would involve some of those most dear to me and who are now in their graves.” In fine condition, with light intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), slight soiling and creasing; paper loss to adjoining fold of second integral page, in no way affecting presentation of signed page. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
