ALS signed “M. C. Perry,” one page, 8 x 9.75, January 6, 1829. Letter to Captain John D. Henley of the Portsmouth Naval Station, in full: “On the receipt of your letter of the 2nd Inst. I applied to Lieut. White the present Commanding Officer of the Navy Yard Charlestown and have received from him the subjoined information. The maker of the Binacles [sic] for the Falmouth, W. L. Oakes of Boston, declines furnishing their dimensions fearing that it might interfere with his patent privileges.” The information he references is penned on the second integral page in another hand and provides the dimensions of flags used aboard their ships. Intersecting folds, a missing lower right corner tip, show-through from docketing to second integral page, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
