Description

Harlan Stone

Political figure from New Hampshire (1872–1946) who served as the dean of Columbia Law School, the 52nd US Attorney General, and the 12th Chief Justice of the United States from 1941 until his death. ALS as chief justice signed “Harlan F. Stone,” one page, 5.25 x 8.5, Peckett’s On-Sugar-Hill letterhead, August 21, 1943. Letter to Henry J. Fisher, referring to the marriage of Everett Fisher and Catherine Marshall, in part: “We were sorry not to have seen you and Mrs. Fisher before your departure but are happy to know that the occasion for it was the prospective expansion of family tree.” In fine condition, with a slight paperclip impression to top edge. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Stone’s own hand. Provenance: The Everett Fisher Collection. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
