Appointment for a beadsman, a position in which a poor person received charitable support in return for their prayers for benefactors. In part: “We minding the relief of Our Poor Subject Thomas Jopling…grant unto the said Thomas Jopling the room and place of Our Beadsman to Our Cathedral Church of Durham.” Signed in the upper left by Queen Victoria. The crisply embossed white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains fully intact. Intersecting folds, moderate overall creasing and wrinkling, and scattered soiling, otherwise fine condition.
