Crystal-clear matte-finish 6.5 x 9 photo of Clemens wearing one of his classic white suits in a seated three-quarter-length pose, affixed to an 8 x 11.75 mount, signed on the mount in fountain pen, “Mark Twain.” Archivally cloth-matted and framed with a descriptive plaque to an overall size of 16.75 x 29. In fine condition. Samuel Clemens was known for his all-white suits, which he claimed made him ‘the only cleanly-clothed human being in all Christendom north of the Tropics.’ This image came from a series of photographs taken in 1907, which he then autographed and sold to raise funds for those affected by the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco. Clemens himself regarded these as the best portraits ever taken of him and they remain among the most iconic images of the author today. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
