Description

John Nixon

Financier and Pennsylvanian official (1733–1808) who served as a militia officer in the American Revolutionary War. ALS signed “J. Nixon,” one page, 7.5 x 9.25, no date. Letter to publisher and financier John Nicholson, in part: “Do not let the assembly break up before Due order obtained from Council.” Professionally inlaid to a slightly larger sheet. Expected mailing fold passing through two letters of the signature, pencil notations and show-through from toning and docketing to reverse, and slight soiling, otherwise fine condition. Nicholson was a financier, anti-Federalist pamphleteer, and comptroller general of Pennsylvania who engaged in a variety of business enterprises, including button, iron, and glass manufacturing and real estate development. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
