Two items: a limited edition color glossy 14.5 x 18 photo of Harrison Schmitt next to the American flag taken by Cernan, entitled ‘America’s Challenge,’ numbered AP [artist’s proof] 1/5, signed in the lower border in black felt tip; and a TLS about the photograph, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, no date but circa 1986, in part: “The original photograph which gave birth to this print was taken in a far away place on the moon called ‘The Valley of Taurus-Littrow.’ It is one of many, perhaps thousands, taken during our voyage to the moon on Apollo XVII—but remains one of my all-time favorites.” Galaxy Incorporated released a limited edition of this image, reproducing this exact letter on the official certificate that accompanied each of the 500 prints. Photo is double-matted to an overall size of 20.5 x 24. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by an additional transmittal letter from Cernan’s assistant to Keith Mountain, president of Galaxy Inc., requesting that Cernan’s address be removed “prior to reproduction.” Pre-certified Zarelli Space Authentication.
