Description

Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver

Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver, serial number 238968, .31 caliber, 4″ octagon barrel with a good bore that has dark freckling and pitting within the grooves. This revolver was made in 1863 and has matching numbers on the frame, barrel, cylinder, arbor, wedge, loading lever, trigger guard, and backstrap. The metal has an overall mixed gray and plum-brown patina with small peen marks, scratches, and blemishes throughout but heaviest and most noticeably around the lever screws and the barrel breech. The cylinder retains discernible traces of the stagecoach scene with some pinprick pitting around the nipples. The brass does not exhibit any of the original silver plate finish remaining, and instead has a warm yellow-ochre patina with some faint verdigris along the edges. The one-piece walnut grip has remnants of the original varnish remaining with numerous small handling marks and blemishes, mostly along the edges of the butt. The lock-up is still tight with a fully functional mechanism. Additionally, the revolver is marked with a fairly modern brass collection inventory tag, “CP / 57,” and is housed in a modern, glass-front display case along with a period-made .31 caliber single cavity tong mold, a heavily oxidized US Eagle pistol flask with patent top (missing the leaf spring), and a partial tin of Sheffield XL percussion caps. This is a nice Civil War era revolver that rates very good plus overall, and is a fine representative example of an original Colt '49 Pocket.

As an antique gun this will transfer without any restrictions.
