Description

Desirable ship’s pass panel for the schooner ‘John of Boston’

Uncommon partial partly-printed DS as president, signed “G:o Washington,” one page, 4 x 7.75, July 24, 1793. English panel removed from a multi-language ship’s pass, issued to “Thomas Dingley master or commander of the Schooner called John of Boston…lying at present in the port of Boston bound for West Indies and laden with Bacon, Beef, Bread, Butter, Fish, Flour, Lumber, Onions, Oil, Pork, Shooks, Staves, Tea.” Prominently signed at the conclusion by President Washington. Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet. Restored to very good condition, with repaired separations to horizontal folds (one passing through the upper portion of the signature), and irregular overall toning. A ‘Thomas Dingley’ was appointed a Massachusetts militia captain in 1776, but it is unclear if this is a coincidence or if he went on to become a ship captain. Nevertheless, an interesting and highly desirable format from America’s first president. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
