Description

Two items: a neatly penned autograph address panel, 4.75 x 2.75, addressed by Thackeray to “His Grace, The Duke of Devonshire,” and signed in the lower left, “W. M. Thackeray”; and an ALS signed “George Cruikshank,” one page, 7 x 4.5, December 3, 1850. Letter concerning one of his books, in part: “I return the block for ‘Stop Thief’ and I shall feel much obliged if you will inquire of Mr. Joyce…with reference to a reprint.” In overall very good condition, with a rusty paperclip mark to the left side and trimmed edges of the Thackeray panel, and two vertical folds with small edge separations, a large chip to the lower right affecting the last part of the signature, and a few other edge chips and small tears to the Cruikshank letter, which is accompanied by an 1851 leatherbound first edition of Stop Thief with a detached front cover. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
