Description

Shortly before joining The Byrds, Parsons sells the rights to “Blue Eyes”

Scarce DS, three pages, 8.5 x 14, November 15, 1967. Standard songwriters contract between Guitar Music (BMI) and Parsons, who sells all rights to his song “at present entitled ’Blue Eyes,’” for an advance sum of $1.00 and additional royalties. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Parsons as the composer, and countersigned by the publisher, Lee Hazlewood. In very good condition, with upper right corner of each page missing, a filing hole and rusty staple to top edge, and staining to upper and lower portions. ‘Blue Eyes’ and ‘Luxury Liner’ were released as the debut single from Safe at Home, the first and only album from The International Submarine Band. Parsons left the group in February of 1968—before the album was even released—and joined the already well-established Byrds, proving hugely influential in shaping their style for Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Later that summer Parsons parted ways with The Byrds, continuing his search for the perfect musical outlet. A hard-to-find contract from the country-rock pioneer’s short yet storied musical history. Pre-certified REAL.
